One more day of well above average temperatures. Some locations in Kern County this afternoon will warm into the mid-to possibly even upper 70s.
Models this morning are similar to what they were yesterday. A low is projected to drop southward along the California coast with weak dynamics. There’s a chance of light showers mainly over the surrounding mountains however we cannot rule out a few light showers over the valley floor. Most locations will remain dry and those that do happen to observe precipitation will record less than 1/10 of an inch.
This will be the first of two storm systems to affect central California between now and Tuesday. I am not impressed by the potential moisture field from storm number two which will begin to theoretically spread precipitation over the area Monday into Tuesday. For now the risk of showers from Monday’s system appears higher than tomorrow's storm but still not impressive.
A colder air mass will overspread the valley later tonight and Saturday. Temperatures will drop from the 70s today at most locations to the lower 60s on Saturday and Sunday. Behind Monday’s system a colder air mass will overspread the region from the north. Snow should fall down to 3000 to 4000 feet over the Sierra Nevada and the Tehachapi Mountains.
After Tuesday the latest ridge of high pressure will build along the Pacific coast for another period of dry weather. It appears Wednesday through Sunday will be dry. Beyond that it is too early to tell if there are any additional chances of precipitation in our future.
